Christmas is Around the Corner

Only 46 Days Till Christmas!

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays throughout the year, because all the family comes home to celebrate with us. I love the whole holiday, however I'm not a big fan of shopping during the holidays. The stores and the roads all always so packed. Therefore this year I have vowed to do all of my Christmas shopping online. It's easy and convenient to order online and just have it delivered directly to the person, plus it takes out the hassle of going to the post office. Below is a list of online retailers that we love to cover everyone on your list :

What Are Your Thoughts On Online Shopping?

Last week our company launched its new online store http://7-towers.com/ and we have been more than excited with the turnout of visitors to the site.
So a great big Thank You to all of you have visited http://7-towers.com/.

With that said today several of our staff started discussing what they would and wouldn't purchase online, I for one like to purchase almost everything online. I love the ease of clicking and the friendly smile of my UPS man when the item is delivered. I love that even with the most mundane item I have the excitement of a child at Christmas when I am unwrapping it.

Of course not everyone in my office felt the same, and I would have to somewhat agree with some of their points. Stephanie had the point that sometimes shoes could be challenging, once she said that I quickly remembered my mad search to find and purchase Hunter Wellies over the summer. I spent hours upon hours looking for the shoes only to order, get them and have them be way too big. I've had the opposite when I have ordered heels and they come in too small.

Overall everyone in our office agreed that purchasing online is the way to go, it's easy, convenient and saves so much time, and lets face it who has the time any more to go to ten stores looking for one item; that in itself can take up a Saturday.

We want to know how you feel about online shopping and some of the things you love about and some of the challenges that you've had with it. Your thoughts are important to us and we want to mold
http://7-towers.com/ to fit the needs of the consumer. So if you have time comment back and let us know your thoughts we would really love it. Also if you have had a chance to visit http://7-towers.com/ let us know your thoughts on the site.

Thanks,

Audrey

How Bookcases Can Transform a Room

I have the pleasure of working with a client who just recently purchased a home that was built in 1947. Prior to them moving in two weeks ago we renovated their kitchen and guest bathroom, you can see the before and after photos on our Facebook page. Now that they have moved in our focus has turned to the formal living room. While there today I was thinking of all of the great uses for the space, than it hit me that along the back wall how great it would be if we did a built in bookcase. My reasons are simple, my client is in need of more storage.... what better way to obtain storage than a bookcase.

Now I know bookcases aren't for everyone, infact some of you may be getting rid of your books and opting for Nooks, Kinde Fires, Ipad and other tablets that have e-readers, hey I am right there with you... however there is something about a built-in bookcase that is just timeless.

Below are some bookcases that I thought would really inspire.

As always thanks for reading,

Audrey

Building a Fireplace Start to Finish

Just because your house did not come with a fireplace doesn't mean that you can't have one.
Below is the before and after photos of how we built our own fireplace, well how James built our fireplace. :-)

We started by purchasing 2x4's and building a frame for the fireplace.

The frame had to have a place for the insert, we used a the Dimplex 50" Synergy Linear wall mount fireplace.

We had to make sure that it was a snug fit before moving forward.

Once we knew that the insert fit, James started adding the backer board.

Since we have 12' ceilings he completed the bottom section first and than moved to the top section.

Once all of the backer board was installed than he started installing the stacked stone.

The finished product!

What I love about this fireplace is that it makes a statement in the living room.

Some cool facts about using a Dimplex fireplace, it comes with a remote control that gives you the option of heat or no heat. In Florida most of the year the no heat option works the best for us.
Another cool fact is that it plugs into an outlet so you do not have to have it hardwired.
It can also be mounted directly into the wall so if you are thinking about adding a fireplace to your bathroom this is the fireplace to consider.

Bathroom Renovation

Time flies when you are having fun; but I think that it flies faster when you’re busy. I just realized that it has been over a month since our last post. Today I wanted to share with you one of our projects that we completed this past month.
This is how the bathroom looked the first time that I saw it, the client hated the color and wanted a change. He also hated the dated lighting and mirror. The cabinets were cream and white and the tile around the tub area and shower was a soft pink. It screamed 1993 and not in a good way, hello if you know me you know I love the 90′s, well atleast for movies and music, not so much for design. :-)

Normally during a renovation project painting is one of the last things completed but with this project we actually had the bathroom painted for the client several months ago before the client decided to proceed with the major work to be done in the bathroom. By changing the paint on the walls and the cabinets it gave this bathroom a fresh new look. Also we removed the old mirror and lighting and hung two new mirrors and two new light fixtures.

Below is the shower after all of the lovely pink tile was ripped out and new Durarock was installed. We also removed the soffit that was hanging over the old shower in order to give the bathroom and more clean modern feeling.

Below is the tub area after all of the old tile was taken off. The one thing about removing old tile that I hate is the dust and the mess, but it’s all worth it in the end.

Below is the vanity area, we had Kenny with KD Drywall skim the wall so that it is a smooth surface  to prepare for our faux artist Christie with Taylored for You.

Below are the pictures of the completed bathroom.

Which Outdoor Furniture is Right for You?

Does your outdoor space call for a big teakwood dining set with a huge colorful umbrella? Or is your summer entertaining style and space more refined, with a smaller bar-height patio set? There are so many options available for creating the perfect outdoor area at your home -- let's consider how you plan on entertaining outdoors and the space you have available to find the best outdoor furniture set for you!

1SMALL AND CHIC

Not everyone has a huge outdoor space -- if you're a city-dweller with a small deck for entertaining or have a little patio off the back of your townhouse, a full-size set of outdoor furniture just won't do. Try a bar-height patio set to extend your space -- the extra height will make you feel like there's more room, and these sets tend to have a smaller footprint, which will take up less space on your deck or patio.

2SECRET GARDEN

For those of us with green thumbs and gorgeous green backyards to match, you'll need outdoor furniture that blends easily into the beauty. Go with a natural wood patio set with simple lines and fresh accents of white cushions -- this way, your flowers, not your furniture, will take center stage! Teak is a great option because it stands up well to the elements.

3BEACH DREAMING

You don't have to live on the beach -- or even anywhere near it -- to create a backyard space that will make you swear that the ocean is right next door. The perfect way to get that beach feel is with some fun, colorful Adirondack chairs. Add some side tables for a place to set your drink and a huge striped stand-alone umbrella to complete the look. Adirondack chairs now even come in plastic -- great for stacking them for storage in the off-season.

4OUTDOOR LIVING

This summer, bring the indoors outside! Most companies that make patio furniture are now also making sets that look and feel like your living room furniture, but are made from materials that are completely weather-resistant. If you have a large outdoor space to fill or spend a lot of time outside, this is a creative option. They even make great looking outdoor rugs, so you can really kick-off your flipflops and relax outside!

5MODERN AND CLEAN

Having a hard time finding a patio set that matches the clean lines in your home? Fed up with all the wrought-iron, ivy-motif furniture you keep finding? Go with something sleek and fresh with easy square lines and cushions. Complete this outdoor look with lots of large white column candles, put in bunches around your patio or deck.

Adding Flair To Your Home With Box Beams

Whether remodeling or commencing initial construction, consideration for the use of decorative wood beams should be taken.
Nothing will add to the appeal of a drab humdrum room more than the addition of beams.
Ceiling beams, can transform an otherwise ordinary living room into an inviting showplace.

Subway Tile the Perfect Solution

The original subway tile was so called because of its white, and glossy glazed finish and very thin grout lines used as the wall surface standard in New York City, New York subway train stations in the early 20th century. Used because of their economical offset pattern and sanitary surface, early homes utilized this in their bathrooms as well. Today, utilizing subway tiles are a trend that is resurfacing in bathrooms, to kitchens backsplashes in every color possible. Here are ways to reinvent your kitchen or bath with subway tile.

Bring out the classics: The traditional white subway tile is nostalgic as it is gorgeous. Whether you use it in your bathroom to evoke clean and crisp interiors or it outshines your stainless steel appliances in your kitchen, subway tile can do it beautifully. While the classic style is run the tile pattern horizontally in more modern interiors, designers are running the pattern vertically to give a sense of height and a twist on tradition. Either orientation subway tile makes your home feel like it has a piece of historical flair to it.
Colors galore: Just like any part of design, architectural or fashion history, when the style comes back it usually reinvents itself in some way. Subway tile is no exception; it now is available in every color of the rainbow to compliment any decor. In kitchens, use colored subway tile backsplashes to coordinate or contrast your countertops, kitchen cabinetry and flooring. In bathrooms, use colored subway tile in the shower, or use a wall wainscot tile from the floor up to a desired height. Be creative with color, as subway tile has opened up a new world of options!
Designer subway tiles: With the more recent popularity of subway tiles, the offset pattern is also a trend that we now see in more homes. Choosing a designer tile that may have a raised section, or that has an integral pattern can reinvent the traditional subway tile and give your kitchen or bathroom a whole new look. If you are curious to see how a single tile will look set into a subway tile pattern, visit online tile showrooms or visit a showroom in your geographic area. You will be pleasingly surprised how one single tile will look in a subway pattern, repeatedly.
Start your own trend: The beautiful part about tradition is your ability to change out parts and make them your own. While traditional subway tile used pencil thin white grout lines that matched the tile, how about using a contrasting colored grout to make the grout become the focal point? Also try varying your size and variation of your subway tiles. While traditionally they were all uniform and precise, try using smaller sized tiles and even try using varying colors that resemble natural stone! The tile world has come a long way; discover the right new style for your home!
What a gorgeous and timely material finish subway tiles are. There is something to be said about residential architectural and interior traditional elements that have withstood the test of time, and have come back and reinvented themselves to surpass past generations in beauty and in function. If you’re trying to think of a way to transform your kitchen or bath, try subway tiles in your backsplashes or shower enclosures. The look is amazing, and you never know you may create a new twist on an historical favorite!
